For children only, (encourages ECE’s to bring the child and stay).
5 week programme -
children get signed in so can stay without parent.
School worked with Ministry to get this organised.
(If you have a Health and Safety policy for it and the children are signed in, there are few problems).

Visit different areas of the school.
The second session is for parents with Principal Alison about our community and our parent/family
culture at this school, (while child is in the classroom). What it means to be a KTS parent.
There is also one session with both parents and child in the classroom.
Trialing cohort entry with 2 start dates a term after community voted to trial it.
This is encouraged but not enforced if families want their child to start on birthday.
The school has been pleased with cohort entry and the lowering of stress for children
and families, (and teachers), with groups starting at the same time as opposed to
throughout the term.
ABC Daycare on Gillies Ave last year sent a teacher once a week to work in the classroom
during writing time. Was great for not only relationship building but getting ideas off each other
for getting children up and running with phonics and literacy.
Great way to get to know the children before placing in class and also build relationships with ECE.
One session is for parents - discussion about how we teach reading/writing and maths,
Kohia Terrace School

NEXT MEETING - Digital Sharing of Portfolios and Learning
The future is digital sharing so we will be looking at Storybook, Seesaw, blogs and other vehicles
our cluster are currently using.
Please email Sarah sarah@kts.school.nz if you are able to share at our next meeting in Term 3.
It will be on a Tuesday (mid term/August) 7 pm - 8.30 pm at Remuera Primary School.
We would love to have more ECE voice, are any of you using Storybook already and able to
share with us?

Sarah at Kohia Terrace School is trialing a parent blog with the aim of giving a snap shot into what it is like in a classroom. Parent response has been amazing and grandparents are also connected and enjoying following the learning and adventures of children when they first start school, which has been really lovely. Getting families onboard early to promote the school positively is the aim.
